The hair goes in the machine, not on the sofa

Every brush has the same flaw: the hair comes off the dog, and then it has to go somewhere. Usually that's the floor, the air, and your clothes. This one pulls it straight into a 1 litre canister as you work.

That's the whole idea. It doesn't lift more hair than a good rake — it lifts the same hair and keeps hold of it.

About the noise

It runs at a maximum of 69 dBA. That's quieter than most household vacuums, which sit closer to 75–80, but it is not silent and no dog is delighted by it on day one.

Three speeds let you start gentle on a nervous animal and turn it up once they've stopped caring. The 2.5 m hose means the motor unit can sit on the floor behind you rather than beside your dog's head.

Give it a week

Don't switch it on and go straight at your dog. Let them investigate it switched off. Run it in the same room for a minute without touching them. Then short sessions along the back, building up from there.

Rushing this is the most common reason people give up on grooming vacuums.

What it won't do

It isn't a bath, and it won't fix matting — mats need cutting out or a groomer, and pulling at them hurts. On a coat that's wet or greasy, wash and dry first.

Why it's in the shop

This is the one we use most. Reina and Puffy are short-coated and still manage to cover the flat; the canister is the only reason we've stopped finding hair in the kitchen. Bought with our own money, used at home before it went on the site.
