Grooming tools

Every brush has the same flaw. The hair comes off the animal, and then it has to go somewhere — usually the air, the floor and whatever you're wearing. Half the tools on this page exist to solve that second part, not the first.

The rest solve the jobs people put off. Nail grinders, because clippers cut in one go and a badly judged cut hits the quick and bleeds. Paw washers, because the walk shouldn't end with mud across the hallway. Mist brushes, because static is what makes dry fur cling to everything and makes some cats refuse to be brushed at all.

One thing worth knowing before you choose: the tool depends on the coat. A short single coat does well with a rubber mitt or a short-bristle brush. A dense double coat needs an undercoat rake, and no amount of surface brushing will replace one. Each product page says which coats it suits.
