Dual Retractable Leash for Two Dogs

Walking two dogs on two leashes means two handles, two lengths of line, and a knot around your legs within about four minutes. This one runs both dogs off a single handle, with independent lines and a swivel that lets them cross behind each other without wrapping.

What it does

• Two separate reels, so each dog can be at a different distance. One sniffs, the other walks on.
• A 360° swivel head, so when they swap sides the lines rotate instead of twisting.
• One brake and lock under your thumb. Both lines stop together.
• One free hand, for the things you actually need it for.

Who this suits, and who it doesn't

This works if your two walk at roughly the same pace and are a similar size. Two dogs of very different strength on one handle means the bigger one decides where you're going.

It's a retractable, so it's at its best in open space — parks, quiet paths, beaches. On a narrow pavement beside traffic a fixed short lead gives you far more control, and that's not a trade worth making. A retractable line also can't be grabbed safely mid-walk: if you need to reel a dog in fast, use the brake, never the cord.

If either dog lunges hard at other dogs, bikes or cats, this isn't the right leash. Two dogs on one handle multiplies the force, and a sudden pull on a retractable is harder to absorb than on a fixed lead.

Why it's in the shop

Reina and Puffy are American Staffordshire Terriers and get walked together most days, so a double leash was one of the first things we went looking for. Like everything here, it was bought with our own money and used before it got a product page.
