Read this before you use it

A laser is a chase with no catch. Cats hunt, stalk and pounce on a dot that can never be caught, and for some of them that is genuinely frustrating — they keep searching the room afterwards, or start fixating on reflections and light patches.

The fix is simple and it matters: end every session with something real. Put a favourite toy or a few treats where the dot has been playing, so the hunt finishes with a catch. With an automatic unit, put the toy down before you switch it on.

And never aim it where the beam can reach anyone's eyes — yours, a child's, or the cat's. Set it low and pointing away from where people sit.

Who it suits

Best for high-energy indoor cats who need more exercise than a flat naturally provides. Less useful for older or calmer cats, who mostly watch it and go back to sleep.

If your cat is already prone to fixating on shadows or reflected light, skip lasers entirely and use a feather wand instead. For that kind of cat this makes things worse rather than better.
